What are Halloween Charades?

If you are familiar with classic charades, you know this game has clues related to things and the player has to then act it out through gestures only, while rest of the group guesses the answer.
With Halloween charades, clues have a Halloween-related theme like “Jack-o lantern” or “eating candy”
Supplies Needed for Halloween Charades
The best thing about charades is that you don’t need much to get started!
- Print and cut out the cards and place in a bowl
- A timer.
- Score sheet and pen to track points.
- Optional props for younger kids, to make acting out the clues easier.
Rules for Playing Halloween Charades
- Create Teams: Divide players into two teams or play together as one group.
- No of Rounds: Set the number of rounds so each team has an equal number of turns.
- Pick A Card: One player picks a card and silently acts out the word or phrase without speaking or making sounds or pointing to objects.
- Helpful Hints: Players may use gestures to indicate clues. For example, hold up fingers to show how many words are in the phrase.
- Timing: Typically, teams have 60 seconds (or any time limit you choose) to guess the correct answer.
- 30-Second Lookup Rule (optional): Players who aren’t familiar with a clue may take up to 30 seconds to look it up before acting.
- Earn a point: If the team guesses correctly before time runs out, they earn 1 point.
- Winning team: Team with the most points wins!
🧡Game Tip: For younger children, start with easier words. Feel free to relax the rules. 🧡For a more challenging game for teens, and adults, consider setting lesser time-limits and using more difficult clues. |

Fun Ways to Play Halloween Charades
The traditional version of charades is always fun, but you don’t have to play it the same way every time! Try these creative Halloween charades variations.
1. Reverse Charades
Instead of having one person act while the rest of the team guesses, have the entire team act out the Halloween prompt together while one person tries to guess it.
This is also a great option for players who feel shy about performing alone.
2. Speed Charades
Set a timer for one or two minutes and have one player act out as many cards as possible while their teammates race to guess them.
As soon as a card is guessed correctly, grab the next one and keep going until time runs out. Award one point for every correct answer, then let the next team take their turn.
3. Halloween Pictionary
Instead of acting out the clue, draw it and see how many words or phrases your team can guess before time runs out.
4. Kids vs. Adults
Have the kids compete against the grown-ups for the ultimate Halloween showdown! Use easier prompts for younger children and more challenging cards for teens and adults.
5. Pick Your Difficulty
Separate the cards into easy and challenging decks and let players choose their difficulty before each turn. To make things more competitive, award one point for an easy card and two points for a difficult card.
Helpful Charades Hints 🧡Multiple Words: Hold up your fingers to show how many words are in the phrase. 🧡Sounds Like: Tap your ear to tell players the clue rhymes with another word. 🧡Movie: Mimic an old movie camera or frame one eye like you’re filming. 🧡Famous Saying or Quote: Use air quotes before acting out the clue. |
