Print the game: Give each player a copy of the printable and a pen or pencil.
Make your guesses: Look at each Thanksgiving item and write down what you think it costs.
Check the prices: Use prices from your local grocery store or your preferred online grocery store. Make sure everyone uses the same price for each item.
Score the game: The player with the closest guess gets 1 point. Keep going until you’ve checked all the items. The player with the most points wins!
- Tip: You can also skip the scorekeeping altogether and just have fun guessing the prices, which can be hilariously far off or accurately close. The results may surprise or even shock everyone.
A Quick Note on Food Pricing
Grocery prices can vary quite a bit by store and location, so there are no fixed answer prices for this game.
Use the prices at your local grocery store or online when checking the answers.
For the fairest game, have everyone use the same store and the same product size for each item.
Try to check the regular price rather than a special sale price so everyone is playing by the same rules.

Play With Real Thanksgiving Items

Make the game a little more interactive by gathering the Thanksgiving food and holiday items and place them on a table for everyone to see.
This could include a pumpkin pie, dinner rolls, cranberry sauce, canned pumpkin, paper plates, aluminum foil and the other items featured in the game.
Give everyone a sheet of paper and have them write down their price guesses as they look at each item. Once all the guesses are in, the host can reveal the prices and players can see who came closest.
This version can be a fun activity for the whole family, especially on a family game night or the evening before Thanksgiving.
This way everyone gets involved, and younger kids may even learn a little about the cost of everyday items.
- Host tip: Make sure the price is not visible. You can cover price stickers with a small piece of paper or turn the package around, so nobody gets a clue.
Play With Pictures
Don’t have all the items on hand? You can play the game using pictures instead. The host can show each food or holiday item on a phone, tablet, computer or TV while everyone writes down their guesses.
Show one picture at a time, give everyone a few seconds to make a guess, and then move on to the next item. After all the guesses are collected, reveal the prices and add up the scores.
Host tip: Make sure the pictures don’t show a price tag, online listing price or other clues. This works especially well when using your own photos or cropping product images before showing them to the players.
More Ways to Play Thanksgiving Guess the Price

1. Play in Teams
This would be great for a bigger Thanksgiving gathering. Divide everyone into two or more teams and give each team one answer sheet.
Show the Thanksgiving items one at a time and let the teams discuss their guesses before writing down a price. The team with the closest guess earns the point.
2. Is the Price Higher or Lower?
This one would be really easy for kids. Choose one Thanksgiving item and reveal its price. Then show another item and ask:
Is it higher or lower? Keep going and see how many correct guesses players can make in a row.
3. Which Food Item Costs More?
Put two Thanksgiving items side by side and ask players to choose which one they think costs more.
Everyone points to their choice or writes A or B on their sheet. Reveal the prices and award a point for each correct answer.
4. Put the Items in Price Order
Give players 5 Thanksgiving items and ask them to arrange them from: Least expensive → Most expensive, for example:
| A. Dinner rolls | B. Canned pumpkin | C. Pumpkin pie | D. Butter |
Then reveal the actual prices. They don’t need to know the exact price, they just need to figure out the order.
5. Thanksgiving Price Lightning Round
This would work beautifully when everyone is sitting around the table. The host shows an item and gives players 10 seconds to write down a guess.
After 5 or 10 items, reveal all the prices and add up the points. This gives you a faster version for families who don’t want to spend a long time playing.
6. Pick the Price
For younger kids or a very large group, give players three possible prices instead of asking them to make an open-ended guess. For example:
Price of Pumpkin Pie
| A. $4.99 | B. $8.99 | C. $12.99 |
Players circle their answer, and the host reveals the actual price.
Grand Finale Guess the Thanksgiving Basket Price

Finish the game with one last big guess. Put together a basket of Thanksgiving essentials and ask everyone to estimate the total cost of everything inside.
Include a mix of items such as a turkey, potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, dinner rolls and a pie. Have everyone write down their total guess before revealing the actual cost.
The player with the closest guess wins the grand finale and earns 2 bonus points!
You could make this even more fun by giving the winner the title of Thanksgiving Price Guessing Champion.
