This version also adds a fun scoring element, so older kids, siblings, friends, or teams can compete to see who can complete the most challenges.

Some prompts are worth bonus points, giving can keep their eyes open and look a little more closely.

Autumn Scavenger Hunt Rules

1. Choose your scavenger hunt. Pick the Nature, Farm & Orchard, or Neighborhood Photo Scavenger Hunt based on where you’re going and who is playing.

2. Give everyone a copy. Each player can have their own scavenger hunt sheet, or younger children can work together with a parent, sibling, or teammate.

3. Start exploring! Players look for the items pictured or described on their list and check them off as they find them.

4. Don’t collect anything from nature. Instead of picking leaves, flowers, or other natural objects, simply point them out or take a picture. This keeps the activity nature-friendly and makes it easier to leave everything where you found it.

5. Set a time limit if you want a challenge. For a casual family outing, you can skip the timer. For classrooms, parties, or groups, try 15–30 minutes.

6. You don’t have to find everything. If a particular item isn’t available where you are, skip it and keep hunting. Fall looks different everywhere!

Rules for Neighborhood Fall Photo Scavenger Hunt

The photo hunt adds a little friendly competition.

1. Take a photo of each item you find rather than simply checking it off.

2. Each completed challenge is worth 1 point, unless the printable specifies a different value.

3. Look out for the marked bonus challenges to earn extra points.

4. Players can use a phone, tablet, or camera to take their photos.

5. At the end, add up the points to see who found the most items

6. For younger children, skip the scoring and let them simply take pictures and enjoy the hunt. You can also pair children with an adult or older sibling so everyone can participate.

Fall Scavenger Hunt Prizes

If you’re playing competitively at a fall party, birthday, classroom event, or family gathering, a tiny prize can make the scavenger hunt more exciting for kids.

Keep the prizes simple and fall-themed. You could give the winner:

  • A caramel apple or other fall treats
  • A hot chocolate treat
  • A homemade “Fall Scavenger Hunt Champion” certificate

Fun titles Instead of Prizes

For classrooms or larger groups, you can also give fun titles instead of prizes, such as

  • Best Explorer
  • Sharpest Eyes
  • Fall Detective
  • Nature Expert

This keeps the activity friendly and avoids making children feel like there is only one winner.
